Monet and Van Gogh Await You at the AGO

Nowadays everyone is an artist, but back in the day, artists were revered, if not always during their lifetime.

The exhibit Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and more, now at the AGO until January 29, brings back some of the most famous painters who were active between 1880 and 1930.

This exhibit delves into the spiritual path that some of these artists took as a break from traditional religion. Featured in this ground-breaking exhibit are 37 artists from 14 European, North American and Scandinavian countries, including Canadian artist Emily Carr, American artist Georgia O’Keefe, Paul Gaugin, Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and others.

This is a chance to get up-close and personal with Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Monet’s Water Lilies, and Munch’s The Sun.

Paintings are on loan from different galleries around the world such as Tate museum in Britain, the National Gallery of Canada, the National Gallery of Scotland, the National Museum in Stockholm, the Munch Museum in Oslo, the National Gallery in Prague, Leopold Museum in Vienna, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and others.

Mystical Masterpieces is the work of curator Katharine Lochnan and was organized in partnership with the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

If you are planning a visit to the AGO, be sure to check out other programs such as Family Sundays, the December and January kids’ program “Super Stars”, AGO Friday Nights, and more.
