Kellie Leitch campaign calls Trudeau Liberals “crooked crew”

Kellie Leitch, Member of Parliament for Simcoe – Grey and candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, calls for investigating prime minister Justin Trudeau for his controversial end-of-year vacation at the private island of his close friend the Aga Khan, the supreme leader of the 15 million Shia Ismaili Muslims around the world.

David Akin, the parliamentary bureau chief for the Sun chain of newspapers, revealed (National Post , January 6, 2017) that Trudeau, his family and a few friends spent the New Year as the guest of the Aga Khan on the religious leader’s private island in the Bahamas. Akin noted that the Aga Khan, who is the 49th Hereditary Imam of the world’s 15 million Shia Ismaili Muslims, has been a friend of the Trudeau family for years, beginning with Pierre Trudeau and his Aga Khan Development Network recently received from Trudeau government $55 million grant over five years to improve maternal and child health in Afghanistan.

SANA, Syria’s official news agency, provides information on the close relations between the Aga Khan and Aga Khan Development Network and Assad regime. According to SANA, the Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Syria stated in 2014 that “the Syrians are able to practice constructive democracy and build Syria as they chose a national president [Bashar Assad] who will fulfill the aspirations of all Syrians.” During 2014-16, representatives of Aga Khan Development Network met with the Syrian ministers for education, water resources, tourism and agriculture to carry out development and humanitarian projects in Syria. In a fundraising email on January 7, 2017, Richard Ciano, Former National Vice President of the Conservative Party and today the Chief Strategist of Kellie Leitch Campaign, wrote that an investigation is needed because “many will quite understandably perceive that as a conflict of interest.”

Ciano argued that the vacation raises questions about ethics as the Canadian government gives the Aga Khan foundation $11 million per year. “Sure, we want an investigation. But more than that, we need to defeat this crooked crew in 2019,” he concluded.

The following are excerpts from Richard Ciano’s letter:

Well, it turns out the reason for all the secrecy was because Justin Trudeau and the Get-Along Gang were hanging out on the Aga Khan’s private island.

Who’s the Aga Khan, you ask? He’s the spiritual leader of the Ismailis. He’s also a philanthropist who does a lot of good work. So much good work, the Canadian government gives his foundation $11 million per year. And that’s where the problem is. Ethics

Sure, we want an investigation. But more than that, we need to defeat this crooked crew in 2019 and that starts with this leadership race…
