Following a terrorist attack in Jerusalem on January 8, 2017 during which a Palestinian terrorist plowed a flatbed truck into a group of IDF cadets, killing 4 and injuring 13 others, Mayor of Montreal Denis Coderre, issued the following statement:
“We learned of the attack perpetrated today in Jerusalem and we condemn it vigorously and without reservation. On my behalf, and that of all Montrealers, I wish to express my sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and hope those injured make a full recovery.
“I have very special thoughts for Jerusalem which I recently visited with my colleague and Mayor of Toronto, John Tory, accompanied by an economic delegation last November. I offer all my support and solidarity to the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat. Any city, such as Jerusalem, Fort Lauderdale, Istanbul, Paris, Nice, Berlin, or Montreal, which seeks to continue to grow and prosper, wishes first and foremost to ensure its citizens an inclusive and safe living environment free of senseless violence”.”
Following the attack, Prime Minister Trudeau, Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephane Dion and interim leader of the Conservative Party Rona Ambrose also offered their sympathies to Israel.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this cowardly attack and their families. Canada’s conservatives stand with Israel. We condemn the terrorist attack in Jerusalem earlier today” – tweeted Rona Ambrose
PM Trudeau wrote: “Canada stands firmly with Israel in condemning today’s horrific terrorist attack. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families & the injured”.
Stephane Dion also tweeted: “Canada condemns today’s hateful terrorist attack in #Jerusalem targeting #IDF soldiers. Condolences & solidarity with victims & loved ones”.
