6 Ideas for a Special Valentine’s Celebration

There are numerous things you can do to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Here are some options you may have not heard of before.

1. Valentine’s Day at the Royal Botanical Gardens

On Sunday, February 12, between 10:30am to 12:30 pm, The Royal Botanical Gardens is holding a special brunch featuring a live jazz performance by Southbound Soul for you and your loved one, and best of all – if you have children, bring them along and RBG will take care of them with their own kiddie buffet brunch and special activities (for ages 3-12). After brunch, take a stroll through the Mediterranean Garden which is now reaching full bloom. Brunch prices include access to the new exhibit The big Freeze.

Drop off for kids is between 10:20am-10:30am. Lunch is served at 11:30am. Pick up is between 12:20pm-12:30pm. Valentine’s Day Brunch is $50 (+HST) per person, and $25 for the kids’ brunch. Click HERE to view both menus.

* Please note: reservations are required for this event.

2. Valentine’s Buffet Brunch at Old Mill

On Sunday, February 12, enjoy a family or couple’s brunch buffet at the beautiful Old Mill, one of Toronto’s iconic places, a heritage inn that has been in operation for 100 years. Brunch includes traditional favourites by executive Chef Martin Buhner, like carved striploin of beef and boneless leg of lamb. In addition, enjoy the large buffet that includes a large array of salads, pastas, seafood, hot entrees and sides, and of course the decadent dessert table. Kids can enjoy chicken fingers, fries and more. Seatings are available between 10am and 1:30pm. $40.95 for adults, $19.95 for children. Kids 5 and under eat for free.

* The Old Mill will also be featuring a Valentine’s dinner buffet. For information click HERE.

3. Scotch and Chocolate in Stratford (almost sold out)

If you have time to get away the weekend before Valentine’s Day, Stratford (2 hours south west of Toronto) has something special for you. On Saturday, February 11, try one of Stratford’s culinary adventures, most of which are already sold out. The Scotch and Chocolate Pairing (check for availability), led by Certified Whisky Sommelier Steve Rae, takes couples on a journey through Scotland’s different regions, pairing regional whiskey with complementing chocolates. This culinary event promises to dazzle your taste buds. The Scotch and Chocolate Pairing event takes place at the Revival House, 70 Brunswick Street in Stratford between 3pm – 5pm. Cost is $59.95 plus a handling fee and HST.

4. Dinner at Byblos (Mediterranean Cuisine)

Byblos is a fairly new kid on the block. Opened in 2014 in the heart of downtown Toronto (King and Duncan), this Mediterranean style restaurant serves dishes which will make your mouth water just reading them off the menu. For an added bonus, Chef Stuart Cameron tries to use as many ingredients from Turkey, Morocco and Israel in his fusion dishes that include citrus mixed olives, organic labneh, almonds with lime and paprika, lamb ribs with molasses, crispy baby artichoke, Fattouche salad, Mejadra, Baklava ice cream, and Turkish coffee mousse bombe.

Byblos has not announced its Valentine’s menu, although their Love Winter menu (priced at $65 per person) can give you an idea of what you can expect!

5. Valentine’s Day Food Nook Tour

For an on-the-go Valentine’s experience, try booking a walking food tour, very reasonably priced at $50 for two people, in the colourful neighbourhood of Roncesvalles. This culinary tour takes place on Sunday, February 12 between 2:30pm – 4:30pm, and includes stops at various shops for a tasting of edible samples. Guests meet at 2201 Dundas St. W. just outside Starbucks. To book this unique experience click HERE.

6. Love at the Toronto Zoo

Brave enough for a little winter weather? The Toronto Zoo, known for creating unique experiences for different occasions throughout the year, has something special for Valentine’s this year. This event – for adults only – happens in the evening (February 11 & 14, 6:30pm-9pm) and includes a romantic dinner, special animal encounters where you will learn what animals do to attract each other, and a visit to the Reproductive Labs. Non-members pay $160 per couple. For more information and to register click HERE.

Have a happy and safe Valentine’s!
