Suspect arrested in relation to vandalizing of Montreal mosque

48-year-old Sylvain Gingras was arrested by Montreal police in connection with the vandalizing on February 2, 2017 of a mosque in Pointe-Saint-Charles, which included a broken window and throwing eggs at the mosque.

According to CBC, the police believe the suspect is also linked to the vandalism at the Khadijah Masjid Islamic Centre on Centre Street. Gingras is facing charges of mischief relating to religious property.

A coalition of national and Quebec-based Muslim organizations led by the the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), urged on February 8, 2017 all three levels of government to take concrete action to counter Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism and discrimination following the terror attack on the Centre culturel Islamique de Québec.
